Wesley Gilchrist overtook an unmarked police car, by going the wrong way around a roundabout.

The 41 year old from Braemar Rise in Salisbury appeared at the city's Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday 12th February) and admitted a charge of driving while over the legal alcohol limit.

He's been disqualified from driving for 15 months, and fined £750.

Gilchrist drove past PC Andy Lee, who was driving an unmarked police car when the incident happened on January 19th, just before 5.00pm.

The officer noticed the white Ford Transit go past him on the wrong side of the road and overtake another vehicle.

When he was pulled over, Gilchrist was breathalysed, with the reading showing he was twice over the legal alcohol limit.

PC Lee said:

"When the van overtook me I was initially stunned by the poor standard of driving, and stopped for a second before following the vehicle.

"I have no doubt that Gilchrist's actions could have very easily led to a crash or someone being seriously injured or worse."
