Closures will be put in between Whaddon to Brickworth for the next four weeks.

The roadworks start tonight (Friday 14th February), with the A36 closed in both directions from 8.00pm to 6.00am.

There'll then be weeknight closures from Monday (17th February).

The work's due to be completed on the morning of Saturday 14th March.

Roadworks Traffic Cones
The roadworks will mean the A36 is closed in both directions overnight on weeknights for the next month

Highways England is carrying out the work, with the bulk of it for resurfacing and safety improvements.

But they've also said they'll do a few additional jobs while the road is shut, to prevent further disruption at a later date, including:

  • Installing signage along the Alderbury bypass
  • Putting road markings on the Alderbury bypass
  • Clearing vegetation at Brickworth Down and Dean Hill
  • Upgrading layby signage
The road will be closed from Whaddon to Brickworth

Drivers are being advised to use alternative routes while the closures are in place.

The 'official' diversion routes are as follows:

  • Southbound (towards Southampton): Use the A338 southbound from Salisbury down to the A31 at Ringwood, then go eastbound on the M27 until Junction 2 where you can rejoin the A36 at Ower.
  • Northbound (towards Salisbury): Join the M27 westbound from Southampton, onto the A31 until the junction for the A338 at Ringwood. Head Northbound on the A338 and rejoin the A36 in Salisbury.

As ever, local knowledge may mean that other routes are possible.
