South Western Railway say disruption is expected until the end of the day.

A landslip between Salisbury and Romsey has led to all lines being blocked.

That means that any trains south from the city towards Southampton are cancelled, as well as coming into it from that direction.

They are expecting the incident to cause problems on the line for the rest of today.

It's affecting both South Western and Great Western Railways services.

Network Rail says that they are responding to the report which is more specifically located between Laverstock South Junction and Dean.

A safety inspection was carried out earlier today which found the issue.

Replacement buses have been arranged to run on the following routes;

  • Between Salisbury and Southampton in both directions via Redbridge and Millbrook
  • Between Romsey and Southampton in both directions via Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh

Meanwhile, Dean and Mottisfont & Dunbridge will not be served.

Engineers have been observing and investigating the site.

They say that the flooding of a field nearby could have made the ballast fall away underneath the sleepers

It's been confirmed that there is significant damage to the embankment, with substantial repair work needed to re-open one of the two lines.
