The 8th annual International Pancake Race is being held in the city once again - with plenty of flips and spills expected!

The event's due to be held in the High Street this morning (Tuesday 25th February).

There'll be a 'pitch inspection' at 9.30am, to make sure the course is safe and ready.

If there's heavy rain, or the conditions aren't just right, the race will be relocated to the Cloisters of Salisbury Cathedral.

WHAT'S THE RACE ALL ABOUT?

It's a quirky way of bringing local businesses and organisations together for a bit of competitive Shrove Tuesday fun.

The Race is also aimed at raising awareness and funds for Salisbury Foodbank.

Here's how it all works:

  • Teams gather at 10.45am for heats to begin at 11.00am
  • The High Street race will see competitors run from Waterstones to the Trussell Trust shop
  • If the race moves to the Cloisters, it'll be along the Southern side, which is actually 3.34 metres shorter for runners

The race always out the competitive spirit in local teams
  • Every team will be supplied with a frying pan and pancake to take with them along the course
  • There will be official flipping points along the track and failure to flip will lead to disqualification
  • A series of heats will take place to whittle down the teams to a final race, with the winner being the fastest down the track
