The dates have now been confirmed as action will take place over 'Guard guarantees'.

The RMT union have announced that two days of strikes will happen on South Western Railways services in March:

  • Monday 9th March 10am - 09:59am Tuesday 10th
  • Thursday 12th March 10am - 09:59am Friday 13th

They're taking place after Guard members voted for industrial action for a sixth time

The rail union says a failure to give assurances that they won't move to a Driver Controlled Operation means they have been left with no choice again.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

"We are appalled by management's bullying and harassment tactics in their attempt to get our members return to work. The company's constant barrage of lengthy letters every time our Guard members take legal and legitimate industrial action is intimidating, degrading, humiliating and offensive. RMT will not tolerate our members being bullied or intimidated by any company at any time whether we are in dispute or not.

I want to congratulate our members on their continued resolve in their fight for safety and the role of the guard on SWR. It is wholly down to the management side that the core issue of the safety critical competencies and the role of the guard has not been agreed."

The RMT union say that they do remain available for talks.

The action comes after there was a 27 day walk-out in December over the same issue.
