Forestry officials have a new website which has the capability to call the right person if you are involved in an accident or see an injured animal.

The Verderers website has had a long overdue overhaul and now includes a direct call option.

It's hoped it will clear up any confusion as to who to call particularly for visitors to the area.

Here's how the website looks, click through to the live version where the numbers are active.

The Verderers say its vital accidents are reported promptly.

"It's an animals instinct to run away and although it may not initially display a visible injury, it could be injured internally or suffer broken bones. It may not be discovered until days later or worse, it may not be found, and it may die in considerable distress."

Safety group, the New Forest Roads Campaign, has welcomed the new website and wants people to spread the word.

In 2019 there were 159 accidents involving livestock.

  • 58 animals died
  • 32 injured
  • 27 accidents were hit and runs where the details were not reported to authorities.
