The Trust has released a statement confirming the person involved worked in the surgical high dependency unit.

The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust say the healthcare professional worked a single nightshift in the unit on Friday (6th March).

The person is now isolated at home.

In a statement posted on their website yesterday (Sunday 8th March) the Trust said additional steps are being taken.

"The small number of patients and staff who came into close contact with this individual have been informed and will be appropriately isolated.

The surgical high dependency unit is temporarily closed to new admissions. Any patient affected by the temporary closure will be contacted directly.

The Trust is following Public Health England and NHS guidance in respect of the virus and all other services are operating normally.

Patients and staff should continue to attend appointments normally and come into work unless advised not to."

The incident is the first in the Southampton area.

Earlier yesterday Public Health England, in their daily update, confirmed the number of cases in Hampshire stood at nine.

There are no changes to care being given at SDH as a result of coronavirus.

They're encouraging people to seek advice from the NHS directly if they're worried:

The number of people who are confirmed to have contracted coronavirus in the Wiltshire Council area remains at three.

All of those are adults who had recently travelled to Italy and are self-isolating at home.

There has also now been another confirmed case in the Swindon Borough Council area bringing the total there to two.
