The group's had planning permission granted for the facility at Castle Meadow and say they're 'delighted'.

The Men's Shed, behind the Pavilion there, aims to bring males together in Wilton to tackle social isolation, boost mental health, improve skills.

They've been working hard over the last couple of years to raise awareness of the project and start work on constructing the shed itself.

The group had to apply for retrospective planning permission for the building.

That's now been granted by Wiltshire Council.

Chairman Dan Kelley said:

"We are absolutely delighted and of course very grateful for all the letters of support written by members of the local community to the Wiltshire Council Planning Department.  Now we can go full steam ahead with our plans to develop the Shed into both a vibrant community hub and a fully functioning workshop. Over the next few months we plan to fit out and then kit out the Shed."

They've been set up all over the country, to give men in their respective communities somewhere to meet, get hands on with projects and make friendships.

We already have Men's Sheds in Salisbury and for Tidworth & Ludgershall, and further afield in Andover too.

It's hoped the scheme can help to improve loneliness and emotional wellbeing for men.

The team behind the Men's Shed is looking to get it all up and running within the next few months.

They're also encouraging males who might want to be part of it, and become a 'shedder' to get in touch with them.
