The surgery on Winterslow Road has been shut due to a suspected coronavirus case.

A message has been posted on the surgery's website informing patients of the closure:

Porton Surgery Closure Notice March 12th 2020
This pops up on the home screen for the Porton Surgery

The notice suggests they've had to close this lunchtime and won't re-open until next week (Monday 16th March).

Spire FM has contacted the surgery for further details, but they didn't want to make a further comment at this stage.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU'RE CONCERNED

If you're a patient at the Porton Surgery, you can call them on 01722 336441.

The advice if you're worried about presenting symptoms of Covid-19 is DO NOT attend a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

Call the NHS 111 hotline, stay indoors and avoid close contact with people.

FURTHER NHS ADVICE

These are the things the Department of Health is asking to do, to avoid catching the illness:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • Always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

We've also put more information on Spire FM's Coronavirus advice page.
