Naomi House and Jacksplace have said that from Friday (20th March), they will be temporarily shifting it's focus.

The children's hospice charity will now mainly concentrate on its end of life care service

They are also going to be preparing to support the NHS.

Mark Smith, Chief Executive at Naomi House & Jacksplace said:

"As a charity caring for the most medically vulnerable in society, it was an immensely difficult decision to have to temporarily end our respite service for the region's life limited children and young adults. However, in light of the crisis we face and recent government announcements, we did not feel we could encourage large numbers of high risk individuals to congregate here in the hospice building.

As things stand, our dedicated doctors, nurses, carers and support staff continue to man the hospice and stand ready to support children and young adults at the end of their life."

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the charity have also seen a significant drop in fundraising income as events have been postponed and less people buying things from their shops.

Naomi House Chair, Faith Ramsay added:

"Clearly Coronavirus presents a significant challenge to the charity and particularly for our care team, but our fundraisers too are feeling significant pressure. There is no doubt that this crisis will have a large impact on our ability to raise money to deliver a comprehensive service. We need our incredible supporters more than ever now, and despite the circumstances we are confident they will rally to aid us in delivering vital care on good days, difficult days and last days."
