The Weyhill bird of prey conservation charity is shutting their site 'for the foreseeable future'.

They've said it's 'due to the Government guidelines on social distancing'.

In a statement posted on their website, the Hawk Conservancy has said:

"We feel we need to do our bit to help reduce the spread of this terrible virus and keep our visitors, staff and volunteers as safe and healthy as possible.  Rest assured that we have measures in place to make sure our birds are well-cared for; that is our top priority.

"In order to do that, we need to do our best to ensure we have a strong and healthy bird team to take care of our birds, themselves and their families."

The Trust has also said they'll be in touch with anyone who already has bookings to visit their Weyhill base.

They'll be posting more information soon about vouchers for the site that may have expiry dates coming up.

The Trust has assured us that the birds will continue to be looked after while the site is closed to the public

Their statement ends with a thank you to their supporters:

"We have been over-whelmed by the support and understanding we have received over the last week and we thank you for your understanding.  It's not easy for any of us to cope with the circumstances we're facing. Look after yourselves and each other and enjoy the wildlife where it's safe."
