Hopes of the City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club flagship event taking place this year have been dashed.

It was meant to be a milestone year for the Salisbury 10 Mile road race as it marked its 25th anniversary.

The event, due to take place on this Sunday, 29th March, had sold out with more than one thousand runners signed up.

Organisers City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club (CoSARC) announced earlier this month it was postponed but tonight confirmed it won't take place this year at all.

In a letter to participants the organising committee said

"The decision has been made following lengthy discussions with England Athletics and advice from the UK government regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. We have looked at alternative dates and due to the uncertainty going forward for the next few months, we have decided to cancel the race this year and defer all entrants to the 2021 race."

The Salisbury 10 is part of the Hampshire Road Race league.

The club added,

"We are unable to offer any refunds as we have already paid a significant amount of money for medals, t shirts and other services.

Please remember that the event is run solely by volunteers on behalf of City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club and is not a commercial organisation."
