The annual event raises money for Salisbury Hospice, with organisers looking to continue their support in other ways.

The fun day at Salisbury Rugby Club was due to be held on Saturday 7th May and would bring together football and rugby tournaments with live music and family activities.

It was first set up by the Futcher family, in memory of Lyn, who received care at Salisbury Hospice before she passed away in 2013.

But the team behind the Fun Day say that with 'great sadness' the event can't go ahead this year.

In announcing the cancellation, they've said:

"The safety and good health of our community should always be everyone's priority. Therefore, it is with great sadness that we have decided to cancel the Fun Day this year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

"This means that the Hospice will be losing out on the invaluable fundraising that it needs to be able to care for severely ill people, as they do so incredibly."

ALTERNATIVE FUNDRAISNG FOR SALISBURY HOSPICE

Last year's Fabulous Family Fun Day raised £14,000 for the charity, so organisers have set up a JustGiving page to encourage people to still support the charity.

They're suggesting a donation of £3 each, which would have covered the cost of a drink at the fun day!

The fundraising committee has said they are definitely bringing the event back for 2021, more details to follow in due course.

In their Facebook post, the team's also put out a message to their supporters over the years:

"We want to take the opportunity to send our love and best wishes to everyone who is struggling through this incredibly difficult period. Stay strong, stay safe, and stay positive. We will all get through this together."
