Police were called to break-up a group in Queen Elizabeth Gardens this morning (Thursday 26th March).

Officers issued what's called a Section 35 dispersal order after a group of people were seen to be drinking and acting in an anti social manner in the park just before 10.30am.

Those people have been ordered to leave the area and issued with maps detailing where they are not allowed to go.

The dispersal order will remain in place for two days.

A man in his 40s has also been arrested on suspicion of public order offences and taken to custody in Melksham for further questioning.

Inspector Pete Sparrow said:

“This type of behaviour is not only contrary to the Public Space Protection Order, but it is also irresponsible in light of the recent government advice and will not be tolerated.”

Gatherings of more than two people (excluding those who live together) are now banned under new measures issued by the Prime Minister on Monday (23rd March).
