The surgery will temporarily shut its doors at the end of today.

Avon Valley Practice, which runs says the doctors surgery in Bulford Road, says it will close at 6.30pm.

The practice is to focus on its Upavon Surgery during what it describes as a "difficult time."

A statement posted on the practice website said

"Our workforce is diminishing and therefore our capacity to answer telephone calls is reducing. Do not rely on visiting the Practice to arrange care, such as booking appointments or requesting medication, as time progresses, we may not allow you on site unless you are attending a face to face appointment with a clinician."

MEDICATION:

Patients are also being urged not to visit to order medication but to use the online facility or to telephone.

Medication will still be delivered to Durrington Surgery on a daily basis and patients will be contacted as to the date and time to collect it from the car park.

Upavon patients will be notified in a similar manner as to when to collect their medication from the surgery.

APPOINTMENTS

Patients are urged not to visit the practice to ask for an appointment but to book online or to phone.

Like many other GP surgeries appointments will be carried out via video consultation.

Those patients requiring a face to face appointment will be seen.
