Godolphin's Head of Design Technology, started the project after seeing ideas on social media.

Suzie McNulty, seen reports that NHS workers were struggling with a lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

With the help of Head of Sixth Form David Hallen, they were able to make over 30 face shields in just two hours on Monday (30th March) morning.

The masks have been distributed to Downton Surgery.

Since posting about the project on social media, Suzie has been contacted by other GP surgeries that are also in need of PPE.

She says, as long as they have enough material, they will create more depending on how much demand there is

Suzie told Spire FM how the idea came about

"I'm quite active on Twitter with the design technology community and last week a couple of our main suppliers put out that they've been collaborating on a design for a face shield that might be used by NHS front line staff and they were supplying laser cutter files, templates and instructions on how to do it and it seemed like something that we could very easily get involved with and help serve the community we are working in."

HELPING TO HELP OTHERS

Suzie and Godolphin School are doing their bit to help support the NHS, and now some parents have offered their support with the project.

If the demand is there, Suzie says they are going to need the generosity and help of others to do it effectively:

"I think one of the things that we would certainly be looking for is looking for local suppliers and businesses who have the polypropylene sheets or acetate film that we need because these are the two main ingredients and we are nearly out of stock at school at the minute, so that's certainly something that we will need if we are going to step up production."

Suzie says she is very proud that the school is making a difference in the local community.
