Parents of players chipped in and, with the help of Waitrose, they have made two packed cages full of food ready to be donated.

Thanks to generous donations from Salisbury Rovers FC parents and families, as well as using club subs, they will be able to donate almost £525 worth of food to Salisbury Foodbank.

The money was spent at Waitrose and was able to buy essential items for families in need.

The club have suspended their sessions due to the outbreak.

Club Secretary, Debbie Sayers, said:

“Rovers was quick to act in closing down our operations at the start of this crisis and our parents have been equally quick to identify a way of helping our community.

We remain committed to supporting those in need and we hope we can encourage other groups in our community to do the same. This is the very spirit of football.

Our families are keen to keep donating monthly and we are indebted to Waitrose for their help in making this happen.”

The foodbank said it is an "amazing gesture"
