Our District Hospital's Medical Director has told Spire FM that patients are recovering from the virus.

Dr Christine Blanshard says they've 'vastly increased' the number of intensive care and respiratory beds for patients.

But it's been confirmed that those beds 'are not full' and the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is confident that they have enough ventilators to deal with a peak in coronavirus cases.

There have been 17 patients who have died at Salisbury District Hospital having tested positive for Covid-19.

Staff from Salisbury District Hospital have been working incredibly hard through the coronavirus crisis

As of 12.00pm today (Wednesday 8th April), there have been 10 patients at SDH who were admitted to intensive care and have recovered enough to go home.

Dr Blanshard has been speaking to Spire FM's Faye Tryhorn about how the hospital's coping, and how patients and staff are being protected:

The Medical Director at the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust says they are 'preparing for the worst and hoping for the best'.

A temporary morgue, with space for 500 bodies, has been built in one of the car parks at SDH to cope during the coronavirus crisis.

Emergency services at SDH are operating as normal, with some separation for patients with Covid-19 symptoms

We're being reassured that separation is being put in place to make sure patients who don't have Covid-19 symptoms but need medical care are protected.

People with any urgent medical needs are still able to use Salisbury District Hospital's emergency services as normal.
