The notorious Southampton Road in Salisbury has benefited from some spring cleaning and essential repairs.

  • Dirt and debris removed from central reservation
  • Buckled central barrier repaired and straightened
  • Verges cleaned
  • Gullies cleared

Salisbury City Council teamed up with Idverde, Highways England and Ringway to repair the damaged central barrier on the A36 Southampton Road.

It had been left buckled following previous crashes and motor accidents.

During the road closure for these essential repairs the carriageway, central reservation, gullies and verges were also cleaned. The work took place over two nights as the dirt and debris had be manually loosened before it could be swept up by mechanical sweepers.

LOOK AT THE 'AMAZING RESULTS'

All teams worked together to achieve amazing results as the photos below show.

MORE TO COME

Similar collaborations are expected to take place on other areas of the A36 City Ring Road as planned lighting and bridge works take place throughout the coming months.

The Leader of the council, Cllr Jeremy Nettle said:

"The difference the repairs and cleaning have made to this important entry route into Salisbury have made is brilliant.  I am looking forward to seeing the results with my own eyes once the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.  I would like to thank all those involved in making this happen for improving our city."
