The NHS Foundation Trust say they're really grateful for the love that's being shown to the service at the moment.

Healthcare professionals are right on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic, with staff working under huge pressure in difficult circumstances.

But their incredible efforts have also heightened the appreciation we all have for the NHS and the care sector overall.

Messages have been springing up around the community in support of the NHS, like this one by Harry and Ryan in Durrington

The Medical Director at the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has told Spire FM they're pretty overwhelmed by the support they've been shown in recent weeks.

Dr Christine Blanshard says it really does make a difference to them:

"The expressions of support we've had from the public - whether that's the clapping on Thursday evenings, or whether it's all the gifts that have been sent in from the public and local businesses - has been amazing. It's really helped keep staff morale up at this difficult time."

The weekly 'Clap for our Carers' campaign has seen people making noise in support of key workers during the coronavirus outbreak.

That's been well supported in the Salisbury area, including with firefighters turning out in respect of their frontline colleagues.

The Stars Appeal's coronavirus fund has also really taken off, with more than £15,000 donated so far to pay for treats for the staff at SDH, as well as keeping services like free Wifi and the hospital's chaplaincy going while the situation continues.

The charity's also been taking in donations from businesses like Coca Cola and Innocent smoothies, as well as distributing kind support in the form of hot cross buns and Easter Eggs for those working over the Bank Holidays.

Salisbury District Hospital's Medical Director has also put out a thank you to the community for 'responding to the public health messages' from the Government at the moment.

Dr Blanshard has thanked us for following the advice to keep washing our hands, stay at home and protect the NHS.
