Armed Police officers were deployed after two men tried to trick a 92-year-old man out of hundreds of pounds.

  • The men knocked at the home of the victim in Winterbourne Dauntsey just after 10.00am this morning (Sat 11 April)
  • They told him his gutters needed cleaning
  • They then demanded £500 from him

SALISBURY POLICE ALERTED

Fortunately, the victim contacted his daughter who phoned for the police.

Officers from Amesbury and Salisbury, supported by the Police dog unit and Police firearms officers were sent in after the men ran away.

Thanks to information from local people, who still adhered to the current social distancing regulations, the two men were located and arrested under the Fraud Act.

CALLOUS CRIME AMID COVID-19 ANXIETY

Sgt Russell Griffin from the Amesbury response team said:

“I would like to extend my thanks to our local community who were able to assist us in locating and arresting these two suspects.

“This was a callous crime which took place during a very anxious time for us all."

“I hope this also illustrates that despite us assisting with the national effort to slow the spread of Coronavirus and ensure people are complying with the Government guidance, we are still out there in our communities responding to and tackling all types of crime.”
