St Joseph's in Laverstock started a project to make 2,000 full face visors for the NHS and they've gone way above that - so far making over 11,000.

They put out a call at the beginning of the month for help in their quest, asking people to donate money that would pay for the plastic needed for the visors, and now nearly £22,000 has been raised.

It's all been organised by Deputy Head, Kevin McGuinness, with support from a team of volunteers.

One of those who's got involved in making the Personal Protection Equipment is Claire Harris.

Writing on their GoFundMe page she said:

"I am so grateful to have found Kevin and his amazing team of volunteers! Being able to do something to help the nations NHS, carers and multitude of other key workers during this crazy time is incredibly humbling.

Today, as a team, we've managed to produce 2300 headbands between us, that's 2300 people who can feel a little bit safer going to work. Amazing huh?!"

St Joseph's isn't just making the much needed visors for NHS frontline workers, they're also now sewing scrub bags, scrubs, face masks and scrub hats.

They're always on the look out for more volunteers, so if you do want to support you can get in contact Kevin McGuinness on

The project has also gained support from another school in the Magna Learning Partnership- staff at Trafalgar in Downton have joined the efforts to make even more PPE.

St Joseph's Headteacher, Rachel Ridley, can't believe the support they're getting:

"It is not often I am lost for words, or indeed moved to tears! The work that Kevin and his enormous team of volunteers and helpers is just, if I may say so, indicative of our community spirit.

What has often moved me to tears is the incredible donations given by members of the public and companies who are ALL struggling financially. My personal thanks goes to you all."
