Garden Waste collections to resume across New Forest

The collection service was suspended at the end of March due to the impact of coronavirus, now it's getting back to normal from today (27th April).

The District Council has sent a letter to all residents who've already signed up to the Garden Waste collection service, to advise when their pick-ups will restart and explaining how subscription payments will be rolled forward to compensate for the missed collections.

WHY WERE COLLECTIONS PUT ON HOLD?

The service was suspended on 30th March due to staff self isolating, and a need to focus efforts on maintaining essential collections of black and clear sacks.

Improved staff levels, in part thanks to staff from other council services being trained to assist with collection of waste and recycling, mean that the District Council now has enough resources in place to operate the service once again.

COLLECTIONS

Collections will follow the normal scheduled pattern:

  • WEEK A collections 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 subscriptions from Monday 27th April for 1 week only
  • WEEK B collections 2020/2021 subscriptions fortnightly from Monday 4th May
  • WEEK A collections 2020/2021 subscriptions fortnightly from Monday 11th May

Customers are asked to only set out the number of bags paid for in their subscription.

The council says it does not have the capacity to collect additional or overweight sacks or side waste and that if additional waste is displayed it will not be collected.

If you need more information you can find it at the council website

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Because the service was put on hold the council is allowing for payments for the 2020/21 annual subscription to be rolled forward as compensation,

The next 12 month subscription will start from Monday 4th May 2020 and will end on Friday 30 April 2021 - this is only for those who have already signed up.

Those customers who did join the service before the suspension kicked in should receive a welcome letter and garden waste sack.

Customers who have not received theirs by 8th May should call customer services on 02380 285391 - although it does look like they have been having problems dealing with a large amount of calls on this:

If you didn't get a chance to renew a subscription before the service was suspended call customer services on the same number as above to renew.

Although existing customers can renew, the council says they can not accept NEW subscriptions.

Updates on when new customers can join the scheme will be added to their website.
