Two police officers, and a police dog, were injured as they tried to capture the suspects.

It was yesterday morning (2nd May) when Wiltshire Police was alerted by colleagues in Dorset that a stolen Land Rover Discovery was heading into the county.

Then, at around 10am, the vehicle arrived in Wiltshire and officers started their pursuit.

The police helicopter was also sent to help.

From eyewitness accounts it's thought the Discovery - pursued by about five police units - made it's way through Hale Purlieu, Woodfalls, Lover, Landford and Whiteparish.

Claire was out jogging with her husband in Lover when she saw the chase:

"We were on our run and just turned left off of Whiteshoot into Besomer Drove, which is a pretty narrow road, when we heard this car beeping it's horn multiple times at us.
It was driving really fast and was swerving a little on the road but he was indicating us to get out of the way. He had sunglasses on and looked in his 30's and just after a black X5 police car screamed past and we indicated which way the Discovery had gone. About 2 minutes later along Church Hill another 2 police cars and a helicopter were in pursuit as well."

After that, Police say the Discovery was stopped on Stonehenge Road in Amesbury and a man and women got out and tried to run away.

A woman was stopped almost immediately but the man started to fire a catapult at officers, injuring two of them. One was hit in the head and one in the chest.

Police Dog Elvis was deployed but he was also hit by the catapult.

The dog was fine, and eventually helped officers stop a man, but they also needed to use a taser too.

Both officers and Police Dog Elvis were not seriously hurt in the incident and have returned to duty.

ARRESTS

A 21-year-old woman from the Salisbury area was arrested on suspicion of stealing a vehicle and taking it without consent. She's since been released under investigation.

A 33-year-old man from the Salisbury area was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, attempted GBH, drug driving, failing to stop and stealing a vehicle.  He remains in custody.

WHERE DID THE CAR COME FROM?

It's thought the Land Rover Discovery was taken from an address in Redlynch on Friday afternoon.

The owner had already put an appeal for information out on Facebook.

Although this has not been confirmed by police.
