It's one of the charity's biggest fundraisers, and can't go ahead in person this year, so they've come up another way for us to support them.

The Midnight Walk was due to take place on Saturday 16th May, so we're being encouraged to take part in our own sponsored walks on that day.

Salisbury Hospice is asking us to complete a 6 or 10 mile walk at home to raise money for them, whilst also remembering loved ones.

Here's what they've suggested:

  • Choose your distance - either 6 or 10 miles and how you want to do it; walk, jog, run, cycle, do a family relay or something else
  • Choose your route - do it on your treadmill, around the sofa, in your garden, up and down the stairs, around your village or wherever works best for you
  • Start fundraising - set up a Facebook Fundraising or Justgiving page and share your challenge. The charity says every penny will make a massive difference right now

You can download a fundraising pack for further information.

We're also being asked to share our efforts on social media, tagging in Salisbury Hospice, using the hashtag #VirtualMidnightWalk

The Midnight Walk traditionally brings around £40,000 in to the charity, and it's hoped this change in the event will still help to raise plenty of funds for Salisbury Hospice.

There's a reminder that when we're taking part in the Virtual Midnight Walk, we should keep to the Government's guidance on social distancing and exercising safely.

Fancy dress is being actively encouraged too, with prizes for the best outfits!

The Midnight Walk is usually an opportunity for people to remember loved ones who have had care at Salisbury Hospice.

The charity's setting up a Virtual Memories Board for us to leave messages and dedicate a star to friends and relatives.

That's open for anyone to use, whether they're taking part in the Virtual Midnight Walk on not - and can be found on the Salisbury Hospice website.
