The pair, age 9 and 7, from Swallowcliffe, are determined to do their bit to help during the pandemic.

Loveday and Clement Matthews are both swimming 3,500 lengths in their pool at their home near Tisbury to replicate swimming to France and back.

Money raised will go towards Covid-19 drug development, trials and other urgent research into the virus.

Mum Claire told Spire FM she's impressed with the children's dedication.

"We are so proud of them. They have chosen to do something that will benefit us all, and it will take a huge amount of consistent effort from them both."

"They are doing it as their daily exercise choice alongside schoolwork and although it is a huge undertaking, they are really enjoying competing against each other to see who reaches France first. But it is hearing all about the incredible support they have received is really the thing that is keeping them swimming when the weather is cold or they would rather do something else - so thank you to everyone who has supported them."
