The county's Local Resilience Forum is asking us to mark the occasion while sticking to social distancing guidelines.

The group is chaired by Wiltshire Police Chief Constable, Kier Pritchard, who's written an open letter to communities ahead of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

We're being reminded that the current Government restrictions put in place to prevent to spread of coronavirus are still in place, and we shouldn't tempted to meet with others or gather at Cenotaphs for the event.

Instead, there's a plea to 'celebrate within your own home and within your own household group'.

The Wiltshire Local Resilience Forum is made of Wiltshire Police, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, South Western Ambulanece Trust, Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, NHS England, and the Environment Agency.

In the letter, Chief Constable Kier Pritchard acknowledges it's an important Bank Holiday, but asks us to be considerate:

"This is a significant anniversary of a key moment in our history and I know how keen our communities are to mark it. However, we find ourselves in unprecedented times and public safety has to remain a top priority for us all. The current Government guidance is clear - we must all stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.

"This means any celebrations this year will need to follow the current guidance - including social distancing and the shielding of those most vulnerable. We therefore ask that you celebrate within your own home and within your own household group. Please do not be tempted to visit family members or friends - put simply; it is not worth the risk."

'Stay at Home' events are planned to mark VE Day in the Salisbury area, including Spire FM playing some party songs to accompany your own celebrations.
