The site on Wick Lane will be run by a different company when it re-opens after lockdown.

The contract to manage the Leisure Centre has been up for re-tender for the last few months.

Now, the Brian Whitehead Sports Centre Association, which owns the building, has chosen Gymies to take over running the Centre from June 1st.

The company did have a premises on Salisbury's Blakey Road until March 2019, when they were forced to close due to the lease on their building coming to an end.

Owner Dave Taylor says they're 'excited and looking forward to a great new adventure'.

The new management also say they'll be taking advantage of the current enforced closure, by carrying out refurbishment works around the site.

'DISAPPOINTMENT' OF EXISTING MANAGERS

Downton Leisure Centre's been run by Beacon Leisure Management for the last 8 and a half years.

Their Head Coach Paul Etheridge has posted a video on social media, explaining the change to customers:

The news has been met with some upset from members and local residents, while wishing the team there all the best for the future.

Paul Etheridge has thanked the community for their support:

"Thank you to everyone who's used the centre over the last 8 and a half years, it's been a pleasure to serve you and I hope that you continue to keep exercising, stay fit and use your local friendly leisure centre."

The equipment from the gym - rowers, treadmills, cross trainers, steppers and recumbent bikes - has been sold off by the current management.
