Emily Spring and Craig Burrows were due to have tied the knot this weekend, but instead they're helping others during the Covid-19 crisis.

The couple should be going off on honeymoon today (Sunday 17th May) as newlyweds.

They're also volunteering for the Wilton HELP group, delivering food supplies, prescriptions and running errands for vulnerable people around the town.

The group's set to complete their 1,000th task this weekend, with Emily and Craig have carried out 10% of the call-outs themselves.

Emily and Craig's wedding has now been pushed back to October 3rd.

SUPPORT FROM WILTSHIRE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Wilton HELP group has been given a grant of £2,600 from the Wiltshire Community Foundation towards their work.

The charity's Coronavirus Response Fund has been set up to support community groups and other charities who are struggling because of the pandemic, or those who are facing additional demand during the crisis.

Overall, the fund's raised over £580,000 and awarded over £325,000 to 90 voluntary groups around Wiltshire.

The support for Wilton HELP will go towards extending a subscription for some 'call centre' software to handle the requests coming in to the group.

The group's been working with Wilton Town Council and alongside Wiltshire Council, local GPs and Lloyds Pharmacy in Wilton to help deliver services.

Town Clerk Steve Milton said:

"The funding is going to be great because we've started to use PPE in a limited way when we are delivering shopping to people who are showing symptoms or have disabilities. The funding will enable us to make sure all of our volunteers are fully protected and that will keep everybody safe, not just our volunteers but the people they are visiting."

The group say the community spirit that's been building in Wilton as a result of the crisis and people wanting to help each other.

Steve Milton says there's been a great response:

"I had one lady ring up who has been having her shopping delivered to say she had ordered an extra shop to give to people who needed it. Because she has been isolating herself, she felt dreadful she couldn't help. When we went to collect the order there were 12 bags of food. It was just such a lovely act of kindness."

Emily and Craig also went the extra mile to help a lady who called the Wilton HELP line, by getting her a bunch of flowers alongside her shopping.

That moved the lady to tears.

The couple have also had offers of wedding presents from people they've helped at this time.
