Officers pulled over a BMW spotted 'driving erratically' down the eastbound stretch of the A303 early on Monday morning.

A concerned member of the public had called police.

Officers stopped the vehicle and following a roadside breath test the male driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and also having no insurance

He was taken to Melksham Police station where two further breath tests were carried out.

PC Myles Scott from Amesbury Police said:

"Even at 06:00 in the morning the driver blew over twice the limit at the roadside. This goes to demonstrate again how careful drivers must be when deciding to get into their cars the next morning. Luckily on this occasion a member of the public alerted us this vehice and we were able to get it stopped before anyone was injured."

Wiltshire Police say any reports of drink drivers can be made via 101, or 999 in an emergency.
