Infinite Homes, who submitted the application, say they also want to focus on green spaces and sustainable travel.

They say will:

  • Create of over 10 hectares of open space that will provide recreational, biodiversity, and amenity benefits. Play spaces will also be provided throughout the development.
  • Create of over 5km of pedestrian, cycle and equestrian routes throughout the development.
  • Create of a new pedestrian / cycle link running parallel to Station Road.
  • Retain and enhance the valley corridor through additional planting and long term management.
  • Retain existing boundary trees and hedgerows where possible, along within other good quality trees within the site.
  • Plant new trees where necessary.

The application says:

"The development is based on the principle of retaining and enhancing the valley corridor, and locating built development of the more level plateau closer to Ashford, simultaneously maintaining the separation between Ashford and Fordingbridge.

The development will be served by a central spine road which in itself will contain irregular tree verges, allowing for larger tree groups to be planted. The route will guide visitors through the site and, where the route is intersected by the green fingers, will allow for views across the valley."
