For the first time next season, Clarendon Juniors FC will have two men's teams playing competitive matches.

The club, which trains and plays home games at Barry's Field in Winterslow has over 160 players on its books, aged from 6 to 18.

But up until now, once the footballers reached adulthood, they'd have to find other clubs to be a part of.

Clarendon Men's has now been formed for the 2020/21 season.

Clarendon Juniors has grown to become one of South Wiltshire's largest youth football clubs since launching in 2001, with 14 teams.

They're also a Saints Foundation partner club, linked with Premier League team, Southampton.

The team will be based at Winterslow's Barry's Field

Club Head Coach, Andy Whitehead said:

"We are absolutely delighted to be launching two new teams.  This is the culmination of two years of planning and thanks to the support of the club and Winterslow Parish Council, we have been able to make our dreams into reality.  Our plan all along was to offer both existing club members and other local footballers, the opportunity to progress into a high standard of men's football.

"We had found in recent years that many players that have spent years at the club, sometimes playing from aged six or seven right up until 18, then found that they had nowhere to go after their youth football career ended.  There are fewer football clubs locally than ever before and we wanted to support these players and also stem the tide of reducing numbers of local teams."

Clarendon Men's will have one of their teams in the Salisbury and District Sunday League, with the other playing in the Hampshire Premier League Division One.

They've started training for the new campaign with social distancing measures in place.

Some pre-season friendlies are also expected to be held in the coming months too.
