Man dies after "getting in difficulty" in fishing lake near Romsey

Four people, including a teenage boy from Salisbury were originally arrested on suspicion of murder following the incident in the early hours of Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Longbridge Lake near Romsey around 2.30am on the 26th June to reports of a 30 year old man in difficulty in the water.

They managed to get the man,from Trowbridge, out and he was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he sadly later died.


Hampshire Police detained four people on suspicion of murder.

The four arrested were a 40 year old man from Devizes, a 48 year old man from Southampton and a 34 year old man and 16 year old boy, both from Salisbury.

In a statement the force confirmed:

"All four have been released from custody with no further action."

"However, the 34 year old remains under investigation for an assault in connection with the incident."

"The death is no longer being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
