The cinema was scheduled to welcome back filmgoers next week, but there's been a delay.

The New Canal venue has previously announced a reopening date of Monday 13th July.

That's now been postponed, with no new date set at this stage.

In a message on the Odeon website, Salisbury manager, Lewis Turner said:

"This ODEON remains closed for now. We are making lots of changes at our cinemas to create a new safer cinema experience for you, and we hope to confirm a reopening date soon."

Anyone who had already booked tickets to the showings planned for next week will be contacted by the cinema.

WHY THE DELAY?

It's being put down to a lack of new content to show film fans - Odeon's explained a little more in an email to customers:

"Following postponements in the release dates of this summer's big blockbusters, we've pushed back our planned reopening.

"We're sorry you'll have to wait a bit longer for big-screen entertainment, but we will let you know as soon as we have a confirmed new reopening date."

When the cinema does open up again, social distancing measures will be put in place, with only pre-packaged food available for purchase and staff wearing PPE throughout.

Cleaning regimes will also be stepped up to protect staff and customers.
