Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced his plan to support the hospitality sector as, lockdown eases, last week.

Cafes and restaurants in Salisbury are being encouraged by the Business Improvement District to register for the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme.

The government's plan will see participating businesses offer a 50% discount on food and non-alcoholic drinks, between the 3rd and 31st of August on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays.

Robin McGowan, Chief Executive of Salisbury BID, said:

"This is a fantastic scheme launched by government and we hope it will help businesses start making positive steps towards recovery. We're encouraging all Salisbury businesses with a dining area to take advantage of the scheme by registering to be part of it."

Any business that does the following can register for it:

  • Sells food for immediate consumption on the premises
  • Provides its own dining area or shares a dining area with another establishment for eat-in meals
  • Was registered as a food business with the relevant local authority on or before 7th July

They will then be able to claim the money back from the government on a weekly basis.

Businesses can join the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme by going to gov.uk/register-your-establishment.

MORE OUTSIDE SEATING

Wiltshire Council are allowing food establishments across the county to apply for temporary pavement licenses, that would allow them to have seating outdoors.

Robin McGowan added:

"Businesses can also apply to Wiltshire Council for a temporary pavement licence to put tables and chairs outside their premises. This scheme will also support hospitality businesses by allowing them additional space to increase customers and trade, whilst promoting social distancing."

They can be applied for by going to salisburybid.co.uk.
