Chefs from the Royal Tank Regiment have been taking on a 'larder test' to get them back used to cooking in field kitchens.

The four competing chefs had three hours to come up with a traditional dish from a Commonwealth nation to serve.

But they could use ingredients from a 10 man Army ration pack along with anything from a 'small supply of fresh produce'.

Staff Sergeant Ashley Wight came up with the challenge and said:

"As the chefs rarely get the chance to cook under these conditions, my aim was essentially to test their ability to work under pressure in a field kitchen environment while allowing them the opportunity to use their creative skills to make a nutritious healthy meal of their choice.

"But, as valuable as these skills are, it is also just as important that they have some fun and enjoy the challenge to test themselves and learn off each other. It has been a very successful morning, the quality of the food served has been excellent and the chefs have had fun as well."

The food served up included traditional Jamaican, Nepalese, Fijian and British dishes.

The British offering was battered sausage, chips and peas but it was the menu by Corporal Rai that won the contest based on presentation, creativity and taste.
