A convoy, which includes a 34 metre gantry crane, will be in the area today (Thursday 23rd July).

People using the A338 around Tidworth, between 2pm and 3pm, is being warned to expect additional delays.

An abnormal load, along with private and police escort vehicles, is due to enter the county on the A303 before heading north on the A338 to Tidworth

It will then stop at a military establishment outside of the town.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said:

"Due to its length, the load will be both slow moving and have the potential to cause additional congestion at locations where road works are already scheduled. Oncoming traffic may be required to pull in and wait for the convoy to pass.

Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across said move. Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey."

The escort is being paid for by the haulier, at no cost to the public.
