The police officer who became exposed to novichok two years ago is in training to run a half marathon in just 6 weeks time for Salisbury District Hospital's charity.

Nick had treatment at our local hospital after becoming seriously ill from nerve agent poisoning and vowed to do what he could for the Stars Appeal as part of his recovery.

He did a full marathon for the cause last summer, but by his admission he's been 'lazy' ever since.

So, he's signed up to do a socially distant half marathon in London this September.

On his JustGiving page, Nick explains a little more about why he's raising money for the Stars Appeal:

"Over the last year or so I've been supporting this charity and in particular the Intensive Care Unit at Salisbury District Hospital. The money that I've previously raised will be going towards some washroom facilities within the unit, something that they don't have but need. My hope is to raise a bit more money for the Intensive Care Unit and the Hospital in general.

"During the COVID crisis all NHS staff have worked tirelessly to care for the sick and save lives. They have done this in difficult and stressful conditions, sometimes without the protective equipment to keep themselves safe and often not being able to return home to see their loved ones."

Nick says the support of the public has kept him motivated to get into training and that he wants 'to give a little bit back to these amazing people' (at SDH).

He also says he's taking inspiration from people like 100 year old Captain Sir Tom Moore and 5 year old Tony Hudgell, who have been taking on charity walks for the NHS during the Covid-19 crisis.
