The Gurkha Welfare Trust is looking to make up a shortfall in income during Covid-19 by offering some money-can't-buy prizes.

The charity's star lot in their auction, which runs from the 24th to the 31st August, is afternoon tea for two guests to meet national treasure Joanna Lumley OBE at The Ritz in London.

Joanna's the vice patron of GWT, supporting the cause as her father served with the 6th Gurkha Rifles.

The money raised through the auction will go towards the charity's work with Gurkha veterans and their families back in Nepal.

Head of Fundraising and Communications, Adam Bentham said:

"We are doing everything we can to make up the inevitable fall in income. Many of the veterans and widows we support in Nepal are in their 80's, 90's and even 100's, lying in some of the most vulnerable categories against COVID-19.

"Nepal has no National Health Service, and as such, these veterans, their widows and communities need our support more than ever. We're determined to not let this economic climate affect their quality of life."

WHAT ELSE IS UP FOR AUCTION?

There's some pretty special lots that have also been secured for the Gurkha Welfare Trust auction.

Prizes include a Chelsea FC shirt, signed by the Premier League winning squad from 2016-17; a flight in Bremont Watches' vintage Broussard plane, as well a tour of their factory; Pol Roger champagne; and much more besides.

Adam Bentham from GWT said:

"We really hope our supporters will get behind the online auction and we attract some top bids. A huge dhanyabad (thank you) goes to all of the companies and individuals who have donated the items up for auction."

The auction goes live on Monday 24th August and runs through until Monday 31st.
