There's a sad update on the ginger tom that was found in the grounds of Salisbury District Hospital earlier in lockdown.

Thomas was looked after by police temporarily based at the hospital for a couple of months and had been looking for a new forever home for him.

His care was passed over to local organisation Cat Watch Wiltshire who were overseeing his recovery.

It was hoped that Thomas could get the medical treatment he needed and then move into a new forever home

The group posted on the Facebook page just yesterday (Thursday 30th July) to say that Thomas has undergone operations on his teeth and ears.

They said he 'was more damaged than we thought' but he was 'doing well'.

It's been confirmed today (Friday 31st July) that Thomas has passed away.

Inspector Lian Dunwell, who'd been leading Thomas's care, said:

"We were never sure of Thomas' age but we think he must have been older than he appeared.

"As the saying goes, happiness is having a cat as a friend, and Thomas' company has certainly left a pawprint on our lives."

Cat Watch Wiltshire is appealing for support to cover the cost of Thomas's treatment before he passed away, which has ended up being more expensive then original estimates due to the complexity of his injuries.

If you can help, there are details on the Cat Watch Wiltshire Facebook page.
