The Cathedral Close venue has put Covid-secure measures in place to make sure it's as safe as possible for people to return from today (Saturday 1st August).

There's been a four and a half month wait for visitors wanting to go to Salisbury Museum, and we will notice some changes at the site,

Reduced opening hours will be in place to begin with - Thursday to Sunday from 11.00am to 4.00pm each day.

Entry will also be free for the first month, with donations welcomed.

For the first month opening hours will be Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm and instead of the usual fees entry will be by donation.

The cafe is however, open throughout the week.

There's a few differences that we'll notice compared to previous visits, to make sure the building is safe for visitors and staff, including:

  • Queuing system on the front forecourt when guests arrive – visitors will be invited into the museum when the reception area is clear
  • Hand sanitisation stations at entrance and at key points around building
  • Contactless card payments only
  • Signed one way system with separate entry and exit points
  • Stewards to support the visitor experience
  • Thorough cleaning throughout the day
  • Removal of interactive exhibits (where possible)
  • Toilets will be open but are to be used by one person at a time

The Museum's suffered a big fall in income due to the Covid-19 pandemic and not being able to welcome visitors

Museum bosses say the coronavirus pandemic has put an 'enormous strain on finances'.

They're calling for the community to support Salisbury Museum, with a number of different options:

  • Visit the museum
  • Become a member
  • If you are already a museum member, renew your membership
  • Use Amazon Smile for online purchases - the service will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) to the Museum if you nominate them as your chosen charity
  • Make a donation through their JustGiving page
