Madge turns 60 today, so we thought what better way to celebrate than picking out our favourite trivia about her!

Madonna Louise Ciccone was born in Bay City, Michigan on August 16th, 1958 but is probably best known for her association with New York.

She moved there in 1978 to pursue her dream of stardom and signed her first record deal four years later.

She's been married twice, to actor Sean Penn from 1985 to 1989 and film director Guy Ritchie from 2000 to 2008.

It was her marriage to Guy that brought her down to South Wiltshire too, as the couple lived at the Ashcombe Estate in Tollard Royal during that time.

Madonna has six children - Lourdes, Rocco, David, Mercy, Estere and Stelle - the last four of those were all adopted from Malawi.

Madonna is one of the best selling female artists of all time, having shifted more than 300 million records in total.

Here's 10 facts that sum up her career in music (from the Official Charts Company):

1. Madonna has scored an incredible 71 Top 40 singles. 63 of those hits went Top 10 - talk about longevity!

2. Between December 1984 (Like a Virgin) to August 1994 (Secret), Madonna clocked up a run of 36 consecutive Top 10 hits, which no other artist has bettered that since!

The song that broke the cycle was Take a Bow in December 1994. It was also followed up by another run of 17 consecutive Top 10s from You Must Love Me in February 1996 until Me Against The Music in November 2003.

3. With 13 UK Number 1 singles, Madonna holds the chart record for a female solo artist.

Those number ones are Into The Groove, Papa Don't Preach, True Blue, La Isla Bonita, Who's That Girl, Like A Prayer, Vogue, Frozen, American Pie, Music, Hung Up, Sorry, 4 Minutes.

Here's the Abba-inspired Hung Up from 2009:

4. Madonna's spent almost 10 YEARS in the charts since her first single was released - notching up 516 weeks in the Top 40 altogether.

5. Her biggest selling single? Surprisingly, Into The Groove!

The 881,000 sales are probably helped by the fact it was from a hit movie - Desperately Seeking Susan, in which Madonna starred - and that it wasn't originally available on any Madonna album.

6. As well as having the most Number 1s for a female artist, she's also has the most Number 2 hits of *any* artist, with 12 of them.

7. Madonna had to wait a long time for her first single to go straight to Number 1 - up until 1998 when Frozen debuted at the top of the charts.

Here's the video:

8. Madonna has never missed the Top 10 with a studio album, and only one didn't make the Top 5.

That was her self-titled debut, which peaked at 6 when it was reissued as 'The First Album' in 1985. Solid performance!

9. It took a whole 23 years of her career for Madonna to have a year WITHOUT a single in the chart at all - that was in 2007.

She'd previously had years without any new entries - 1988 and 2004 - but there had been a couple of songs still hanging around in the Top 40 from the previous year.

10. It's all about ME for Madonna. It's the most common word to crop up in the titles of her hits is 'me', with seven songs.

They are: Rescue Me, You Must Love Me, Don't Cry for me Argentina, Don't Tell Me, Me Against the Music, Give it 2 Me, Give Me All Your Luvin'. 'Girl' is second most popular word, with five Top 100 mentions.
