War movie shot on Salisbury Plain nominated for TEN Oscars

Sam Mendes' First World War drama, 1917, is in line for more success.

The film, which did much of it's shooting on Salisbury Plain, has been nominated for ten awards at this years Oscars, including for 'Best Picture'.

The Oscars takes place on the 9th February 2020.

SALISBURY PLAIN - A MOVIE LOCATION

Planning permission was given to turn part of Salisbury Plain into a film set for 35 weeks last year.

World War One trenches and a French farm were built near Tilshead,

1917 Universal pictures
Filming took place last summer.

The movie also features hundreds of local people as extras after a casting call for men age 16-35 was held last year at Salisbury City Hall.

BIG HIT

1917 has already won two Golden Globes, including Best Picture Drama and Best Director.

It has also been nominated for nine BAFTAs and they will find out if they were successful at those awards on the 2nd February. 

WHEN CAN I SEE 1917?

The film came out in cinemas on Friday 10th January and has received very good reviews so far.

It's IMDB rating has just beaten fellow war epic Saving Private Ryan but just 0.1 point - 8.7.
